Pittsburgh is preparing for its 55th Light Up Night event. This annual event, scheduled for November 20th, is the gateway to the Holiday season, offering free entertainment, including music and activities for all ages.

From tree lighting ceremonies to firework displays, Light Up Night is the perfect way to add some holiday cheer to your downtown Pittsburgh hotel stay. Make sure you don’t miss all the magic and memories taking place across the Golden Triangle and start planning ahead for the biggest night of the year.

Light Up Night 2015

The Light Up Night Event, brought together by the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, includes endless fun and holiday entertainment all across the downtown area. This year’s festivities promises to be bigger and better than ever before.

  • Illuminate Your Holiday Spirit with Tree Lightings

This year’s festivities feature not one, but eight holiday tree lighting events throughout downtown Pittsburgh. The first takes place at the City Council Building in early morning while the rest are scattered throughout the night concluding with Highmark’s Unity Tree ceremony and rooftop firework display at 7 p.m.

  • Take Part in a Pittsburgh Tradition

The historic Macy’s department store may have shut its doors earlier this year, but the Holiday Window display lives on. The mayor himself will unveil nine holiday-themed windows – designed and created by local artists and cultural groups – at 6:30 p.m.

  • Take a Seat on Santa’s Lamp

Join kids and families from across the city for the official lighting of One Oxford Centre’s 30-foot Christmas tree and welcome Santa Claus himself as he takes the time out of his busy schedule to hear some holiday wishes. Santa’s elves and reindeer will be on hand with face paintings, caricatures, sand art and more to help you kick off the holiday season in style.

  • The Fireworks Finale

No Light Up Night experience is quite complete without first catching a glimpse at Pittsburgh’s most spectacular fireworks display of the year all synchronized to some of the holiday’s hottest hits new and old.

Holiday Fun All Season Long

After the trees have all been lit and the fireworks launched, downtown Pittsburgh plans to keep the holiday spirit alive all season long.

  • Peoples Gas Holiday Market

The Peoples Gas Holiday Market will once again transform Market Square into a traditionally-styled European village that mixes international flair with some Pittsburgh charm. Visitors to Market Square can make their way through countless shops and vendors set up throughout the Square while being taken away to an atmosphere filled with holiday cheer. On your visit, don’t miss the Season of Lights display featuring over 150,000 lights and a 30-foot high electric sphere tree that twinkles and dances every half hour.

  • Holiday Kidsplay

The Holiday Kidsplay returns for its second year of family fun throughout downtown Pittsburgh. Each weekend from November 21st until December 20th, downtown Pittsburgh will play host to a series of free family activities in the city’s Cultural District.

  • The Pittsburgh Ice Rink at PPG Place

For its 14th year, the Pittsburgh Ice Rink at PPG Place is back and bigger than ever. The new rink is 25% larger than the original rink, accommodating up to 350 skaters at any given time. In the center of it all, a breathtaking 65-foot Christmas Tree illuminates it all. Don’t forget to check out the Gingerbread House and Train exhibit aligning the windows of PPG Place while you’re there, showcasing a magnificent display of delicious dwellings created by local artists, chefs and children alike.

  • Children’s Museum Creation Stations

Every Saturday throughout the holiday season will include some free family fun at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. From November 28th to December 19th, the Museum will host a free arts & crafts lesson that allow kids to showcase their creativity while getting into the holiday spirit.
